Why gave up on a great job opportunity?
Quite recently, I was reached out by a recruiter from a top company with an amazing job opportunity (both in terms of money as well as the job role) and I, after clearing almost all the rounds of interview, declined it. Wondering why?
So here's the thing. While in the last round of interview, I candidly asked the recruiter how many other candidates were shortlisted for the same role and she was kind and honest enough to let me know that there's just one more candidate (Alex, name changed) who has reached the final round alongside me. During this conversation, she also mentioned that Alex had lost his job in March due to COVID layoffs. This is where I declined to go ahead with the last round and asked the recruiter to go ahead with Alex.
Moral: Alex is either as good as or even better skilled than me (since he's reached the final round alongside me). I am currently having a job that pays me well to live a decent life but he hasn't had a job for almost 4 months now and can only imagine how hard it would have been. It's really important to be humane and one value that my parents have always taught me: HUMANITY OVER GREED! Let's all be humans first, everything comes after.
